Child Beale Floatplanes Oct 2000

Update:-  This year's October meeting is on 21st October 2001 - So get your floats on!!

I have flown most types of aircraft, but one 'plane I would like to try is a floatplane or a flying boat.
The Reading club hold two events a year at the Child Beale park (nr Pangbourne, Berks,) on one of the park's lakes.

Here are some of the pictures from the October 2000 meeting.

Electric Floatplane Flair Puppeteer
Out in the early morning sunshine. This electric is incredibly light and carries a digital camera! - The owner has published the plans for it on The owner has published the plans for it on his website A lovely Flair Puppeteer - It is actually one of a pair. They flew in formation later in the day. (See the video clips at the bottom of this page).
RCM&E Ophidio Flipped WOT4
Ophidio. featured in an RCM&E plan not so long ago. It was here for its maiden flight. I waited all day to see it fly, but the owner never quite got around to it! Not a good day for everyone...
This WOT4 landed safety and then got flipped over by the wind while taxiing back.

NorthStar on the Lake NothStar High speed taxiing NothStar starting take off run NothStar nearly airbourne NothStar finally gets away
There is a lot written about the Northstar. After Seeing how this one stuck to the lake, I don't think I'll bother building one. It finally got away after a lot of full power taxiing. Perhaps if it had a step in the hull it might get out of the water easier.
When Flying high speed low passes, you should always know where the obstacles are.

Look out Chris! - there's a tree over there.

NothStar - tree ahead!
